What it is

Specific tests show which structure is limiting a movement. We then treat it with slow, carefully dosed mobilisations. Quick “cracking” techniques are the exception and only used if we have agreed on them with you first.

Only therapists with an additional multi-year qualification may provide manual therapy on a prescription. Three members of our team hold this qualification.

Who it’s for

  • for restricted movement in the neck, mid or lower back
  • for stiff joints after immobilisation, e.g. shoulder, knee or ankle
  • for jaw joint problems (TMJ/CMD), often prescribed by a dentist
  • for symptoms radiating into an arm or leg – after a doctor has checked them

Your doctor decides which treatment is right for you – we are happy to advise as well.

How a session goes

  1. Assessment

Specific movement and joint tests show exactly where the restriction is.

  2. Mobilisation

Gentle, rhythmic techniques – you tell us at any time how it feels.

  3. Home exercise

One short exercise to keep the effect in everyday life.

  4. Re-test

At the end we test the same movement again so you can see what has changed.

Duration & frequency

15–25 minutes of treatment time, about 30 minutes including getting changed.

Often 6 sessions, 1–2 per week, frequently combined with heat or exercise therapy.

Do I need a prescription?

  • Statutory insurance: yes. The prescription will say “MT” or “Manuelle Therapie”.
  • Private insurance: with a private prescription; reimbursement depends on your plan.
  • No prescription: possible as a self-paying patient with Johanna Kerber (limited practitioner licence for physiotherapy).
