    The cellar

    130 years underground

Beneath the house on Musterstraße lies a rubble-stone barrel vault, built in 1894 as a storage cellar for a Kirn wine merchant. It stays a steady 57 °F down here all year – once great for wine barrels, now great for guitars.

The sound is warm and close: the arch carries every voice to the back row without a huge PA. That’s why even a quiet trio sounds like a real concert here.

    1. 1894The vaulted cellar is built to store wine and cider.
    2. 1962A local jazz club moves in – the first candlelit concerts.
    3. 1998The music stops; the cellar becomes a storeroom for decades.
    4. 2021Carefully restored, a stage built – Nachtfalter opens.
    • 1894Year the vault was built
    • 120Guests standing
    • 60Seats for jazz & readings
    • 14 ftHeight at the top of the arch

Heads-up: the cellar is not wheelchair accessible – it’s 18 steps down. Give us a quick call ahead and we’ll gladly help carry and save you a spot near the entrance.
